Sarasota Meditation and Art Center is honored to present The Golden Eight Petaled Lotus Way of Health & Happiness Master Series by Lama Losang (Dr. David Bole) The first seminar Petal 1: Cultivating Wisdom, Compassion and Awakening is scheduled for September 7-8, 2024. 

The Golden Eight Petaled Lotus is a series of the fundamental teachings on eight healing systems common to India, China, Japan, Southeast Asia, and Tibet that were expressed throughout Asian cultures for centuries. They were considered the most important learning for health and well-being. Emphasis is placed on the importance of these methods for cultivating health and especially wisdom and compassion. They provide the basis for becoming a happy, healthy, and effective human being. Students of the healing arts were required to train in these fundamentals.

In his many decades of practice in both Eastern and Western disciplines, Lama Losang (Dr. David Bole) has used all the methods and can attest to their power and effectiveness. According to him, this system has the profound ability to transform our thinking and improve the quality of our life. In this Master Series, he will cover the eight different areas of study listed below:


Petal One: Wisdom, Compassion, and Awakening through Mindfulness and Insight Meditation

Petal Two: Tai Chi/Chi Gong: Exercises for Health and Longevity

Petal Three: Diet and Nutrition: Food as Medicine

Petal Four: Acupressure Massage: Thirty-Six Acupoints for Health and Vitality

Petal Five: I Ching and Mo Divination: Consulting the Oracle

Petal Six: Feng Shui and Astrology: Ancient Tools for Modern Healers 

Petal Seven: Herbal Medicine: Integrating Plant Medicine for Health and Healing 

Petal Eight: Law of the Five Elements: Theory and Practice

Petal 1: Cultivating wisdom, compassion and awakening
This teaching provides an organized way of learning important concepts and related practices. It provides methods for promoting and cultivating wisdom and compassion through mindfulness and insight meditation. It is the starting point of our journey to awakening.

Petal 2: Introduction to the Five Elements of Health and Happiness: Healing the Whole Person. This Five Element Approach is the foundation of Asian Medicine. This includes aspects of diet and nutrition, chi gong (exercises for health and Chi cultivation), herbal remedies, and acupressure points to relieve pain and restore energetic balance and much more. This series of teachings has immediate application in daily life to enhance health and well-being.

Who is Lama Losang/ Dr. David Bole?

Lama Losang completed the traditional three-year retreat under the guidance of the renowned Meditation Master, Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche. He is a fully ordained Gelong monk and Lama in the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. He was previously appointed by H.H the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa and Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche to serve as a member of the KTD Board of Trustees.
Currently, Lama Losang is the Resident Lama for the Gainesville Karma Thegsum Choling Meditation Center and Spiritual Director of the Jacksonville KTC and the Amelia Island KKSG. He is the author of, Wisdom, Compassion, and Awakening, Balboa Press, 2024.

He was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Psychology from the University of Florida. He taught Psychology and was appointed Dean of the Psychology Dept. at Greenville Tech. College in Greenville, South Carolina. He is a Licensed Acupuncture Physician and Director of the Traditional Acupuncture Center where he also teaches Tai Chi, herbal medicine, acupressure, diet and nutrition classes. He also studied Tibetan Medicine with Dr. Yeshi Donden, the acclaimed physician to H.H. The 14th Dalai Lama. As a Westerner trained in both Eastern and Western sciences, he is able to provide a unique synthesis of these approaches to health and healing.
